How can the fashion industry become more sustainable

→ → →https://youtu.be/LAEXEn39dMs The sector has a goal of reaching 50 billion dollars in export by 2021. Reaching this goal requires huge quantities of water for washing, dyeing, and finishing fabric. Twenty years back, we’d sink tubewells to 6 meters and get water now we have to go beyond 46-60 meters. Though in principle textile mills could use Dhaka’s abandon surface water. This water is now to polluted for industrial use. Fortunately an incrising number of textile sector leaders are taking initiative to address water challenges. Abdus sobhan Managing director Okeo-tex group “As a responsible garments manufacturer we are always looking for cleaner and greener production.we have reduced water consumption almost 50%. With the help of the pact experts we have gotten more details on how to save more energy and more water.” Okeo-tex is participating in the Bangladesh water PACT partnership for cleaner textile which is managed by the International Finance Corporation or IFC with general support from the Government of the Netherlands. Kyle Kelhor Country Manager IFC, Bangladesh “Over the past two years , IFC has invested over 1.2 billion dollars , largely supporting the sector. Support for the RMG sector here in bangladesh , and in particular sustainable practices, is a key part of our overall strategy. If the sector expects to double to 50 billion dollars in exports in the next 10 years or so,enabling water and resources efficiency is a vital component of this objective.the case for cleaner production is very simple : it makes business sense.” The pact partnerships includes leading brands and other actors. Jenny Fagerlin Sustainabilty Manager Bangladesh & Pakistan, H&M “Today H&M is one of the biggest buyers from bangladesh , and we source from around 300 factories . one of our most important focus areas is water.H&M works with water throughout the whole value chain.for bangladesh and for production, that means that we look into the water usage inside our factories. We have two important commitments: one is towards our global partnership with WWF, and the secoend one is our local multi-stakeholder platform and program, pact.” The Bangladesh Garments Manufacturer and Exporters Association or BGMEA recognises the important role can pay in pact and other environmental initiatives. Md. shahidullah azim Vice-president BGMEA “We have taken the issue of environmental sustainability strategically for our long-term growth. BGMEA is a proud partner of PACT.As a part of PACT, BGMEA is proud to host the Textile Technology Business Center. We have created a program called TREES:Towards Resources Efficiency and Environmental Sustainability. Some leading global brands have come up with a roadmap on Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals. From the BGMEA end , we have already endorsed it ” Complementary initiatives from other organizations such as the 2030 Water Resources Group are also taking root. Syed akhtar mahmood Lead investment policy officer World bank group “Enhancing water security should not be the responsibility of water experts alone,we all have a role in this , and that is the spirit of the 2030 Water Resources Group, where we help to bring together government , the private sector, water experts, and other actors in multi-stakeholder platforms where they discuss local and global knowledge. We have just initiated such a program in bangladesh. We expect the private sector to take a leading role ” For The Textile Sector in Bangladesh The Time Has Come to Rule From Being Just The Engine of Growth to becoming The Leader in Sustainable Development. sustainability in apparel, fashion and textiles manufacturing affordable sustainable clothing brands sustainable apparel brands fashion issues in society sustainable, organic, green clothing & fabrics brands list forever 21 zarah&m kids h&m sale fashion problems → → →
